Coal mining or farming?
Coal mining or farming? Lyndon Keane

YOUR SAY: Keep our farms viable – we can’t eat coal

WILL National Party members ever wake up to the fact that as junior partners in the Abbott Coalition they are taken for granted?

The day after the Agricultural Minister finally released his long- awaited White Paper, the government's plan to invest $4 billion in our farmers, the Prime Minister bars him from appearing on the ABC's Q and A program denying him the chance to spruik his message.

Lately the Federal Government has given approval to the huge Shenhau Watermark coal mine in the Liverpool Plains area, one of the richest black soil agricultural areas in the country as well as sabotaging the renewable energy sector.

At a recent conference the Young NSW Farmers updated the policy platform to recognise the effects of climate change and move away from fossil fuels.

Any farmer worth his or her salt understands the environment and sees firsthand the effects of climate change.

We need our farms to remain viable forever. The Prime Minister may well think coal is good for humanity but you can't eat coal.
