MOST fathers would be hesitant about letting a 16-year-old daughter climb Mount Everest, but Glenn Azar has given his total commitment - even selling his gym to fund the trip.

When Alyssa Azar began her mission to become one of the youngest in the world to climb Mount Everest, her father Glenn promised he would do whatever he could to support her.

It was a dream that started when Alyssa was just eight becoming the youngest to walk the Kokoda Track. After two years of rigorous preparation, the momentous climb just months away hit a road block in funding.

"Years of hard work and long hours have put me in a position where I was able to fulfil a promise to Alyssa to find the funding for her climb," Mr Azar said.

"I am big on loyalty, doing what you say you'll do, and doing whatever it takes. This was the 'whatever it takes' moment."

The prominent gym Fighting Fit has passed into the hands of passionate trainer and manager Tess Aisthorpe.

Mr Azar said it was the biggest decision he had made but knew it was the right time and the person purchasing it was the right person.

He will now focus his attention on his outdoor adventure and expedition business Adventure Professionals which offers expeditions to remote places around the world.

Before she tackles Everest, Ms Azar will climb Aconcagua, the highest mountain in South America, as a "training run".

Following the climb will be six months of intense preparation before she sets off for the Himalayas. She has also signed a book deal with Penguin to follow the trek.

Mr Azar said he always gets asked why he lets her do it.

"I don't believe in putting up glass ceilings for kids," he said.
