More wins in store for Jake
JAKE Northfield and Swift Rider may prove a partnership that's tough to stop.
The two-year-old continued his recent improvement with victory in the $1645 411m Westlawn Finance Stakes at the last Casino meeting.
Jake is the latest of the successful Northfield clan who regularly enjoy wins at the region's tracks and is assisting dad Glen with training duties.
The Casino-based Northfields were recently given the dog by relative and fellow successful greyhound owner/trainer Peter Simpson - and seem to be proving a handy partnership, if last Friday's success is anything to go by.
"I was happy to have him," Jake said.
"He is a lovely, good-natured dog in great condition.
"The one who finished second (Glenreagh Rocket) has won a cup [last year's Charcoal Inn Casino Cup], so it was a good win.
"I was hopeful he would get the win as he is such a good dog.
"I was really proud to get the win."
Northfield junior said he was enjoying helping his family with greyhounds.
"I just love being around the dogs," he said. "They are easy to get along with and work with."
Meanwhile, promising bitch Something Blue faces a big test of his potential at tonight's latest Lismore meeting.
The two-year-old, who has five wins and has placed on all but one of her 10 outings so far, goes from box six in the $2015 420m Goonellabah Newsagency Stakes.
She faces two tough challenges in the shape of Mr Babicci and Take the Weight, two racers with multiple wins at the Lismore track.
TURNER'S TIPS FOR LISMORE
- Mr Babicci (box three, race seven): Tough opposition but should be the best of the field.
- Sheza Sonnet (box four, race eight): Has gone well over 5t20m at Lismore recently and seems to be hitting her straps.
- Intensive Storm (box two, race three): Unpredictable racer but seems to be stepping up to the longer distances.
