Modern Family cast arrive in Sydney, bound for Queensland
THE cast of Modern Family have arrived in Sydney today to film for the hit US sitcom.
Stars including on-screen family Sofia Vergara, Ed O'Neill and Rico Rodriguez touched down at Sydney International Airport this morning and were greeted by a throng of fans.
Jesse Tyler Ferguson flew in yesterday and the show's producers arrived last week.
The cast and crew will be in the country for two weeks to film an Australian vacation episode, spending their first week in Sydney before flying to Queensland to film in the Whitsundays on the Great Barrier Reef.
Whitsundays Tourism has confirmed the show will film at Hayman Island and that the secluded, luxury island is already closed to the public because of renovations at the resort.
"This is the first time the show has filmed an episode outside of the US and it provides an immense exposure for our region," said Whitsundays Marketing and Development Limited (WMDL) Acting Chief Executive Officer Daryl Hudson.
"The opportunity to put the Whitsundays into the spotlight is invaluable and will provide a significant boost for the local tourism industry."
The show is estimated to have a global audience of 100 million viewers.
Members of the cast were quick to share photos of their arrival Down Under on social media.
Vergara posted this selfie of her and her on-screen son Rodriguez.
