Miner pinned by the wrist for more than an hour

CENTRAL Queensland miner pinned by the wrist for more than an hour is now being used as a cautionary tale for the entire industry.

The worker was removing a cable from a reeler - imagine a giant hose reel - when it came loose from its holder and jammed their arm.

Their wrist was crushed between the cable reel and its holder until help arrived about an hour later.

According to the Department of Mines, similar incidents have occurred twice before at the same mine.

The safety alert asks mine managers to make sure workers are well trained, that machinery and equipment is properly maintained and that incidents are reported and investigated.

The Department has a policy of not naming mines publicly to encourage more honest reporting.
