Merritt deemed worthy of Blues jumper by fellow Bunnie
SOUTH Sydney five-eighth John Sutton has no doubt teammate and winger Nathan Merritt deserves a New South Wales jumper.
Merritt was at his best against the Warriors on Sunday, scoring a terrific try and running for 120m.
"Definitely (he deserves a chance). He's been one of the best wingers around in the game for a long while now," Sutton said.
"He's the top tryscorer this year, and he's been doing it since I've been playing."
Merritt has capitalised on the Rabbitohs' strong form across the paddock so far this season, undefeated from their first five games.
"Just our consistency - we're not having as many lapses as we used to last year," Sutton said.
This Saturday night's clash against Melbourne, also undefeated, shapes as a genuine blockbuster at ANZ Stadium.
Sutton is wary of the threat Billy Slater will pose, with the star fullback already crossing for four tries this year.
"I think it's just finding the ground, and not kicking down his throat. He's a good returner and brings it back strong," Sutton said.
"So just finding the spaces and having a good kick-chase."
