Matildas are in it to win women’s World Cup in Canada

MATILDAS coach Alen Stajcic has named a 23-player squad he believes is capable of beating any team at next month's women's World Cup in Canada.

The announcement follows an intense four-month preparation in Australia and Europe, with the Matildas' first Cup match against world No.2 the United States on June 9 (AEST).

Star Melbourne Victory forward Lisa De Vanna, who has slotted 33 goals from 97 internationals, is one of 18 players named who were part of the Matildas side that finished runner-up at last year's Asian Cup.

While De Vanna (pictured) will play in her third World Cup, Adelaide United goalkeeper Melissa Hudson will contest her fourth.

"The emphasis since we came together in January has been on the things this country is renowned to bring to any sporting contest - things like positivity, backing yourself and really taking it up to the opposition," Stajcic said.
