Masters games gets underway
The sixth biennial Masters Games kicks off in Lismore on Friday morning with 2048 people participating in 13 different sports. They are coming from as far away as Papua New Guinea with a few teams from Victoria and Sydney and Canberra, but most are from within a four hour radius of Lismore.
Lismore Council's event manager John Bancroft said the event was such a success because of the emphasis on fun and participation rather than competition.
“The competitive edge is knocked off a bit and the focus is on the social and people seem to enjoy that.”
