NEW South Wales state Liberal Party director Mark Neeham will join conservative lobby group Crosby Textor, the company announced on Wednesday.

Mr Neeham, who led the state Liberal Party for more than five years, was recruited for the expanding lobby firm as executive director.

His appointment comes as another former NSW Liberal Party director, Remo Nogarotto, will be promoted within the company to lead a new international arm of Crosby Textor.

The news follows controversy around firm director Lynton Crosby, after former prime minister John Howard hit out at United Kingdom Labour leader Ed Milliband's attacks on the lobbyist.

In a speech in Britain, Mr Howard defended Mr Crosby's reputation, after Mr Milliband had accused him of advising UK Prime Minister David Cameron to capitalise on immigration prejudices in the UK.

Mr Howard told reporters the attack was "pathetic", describing Mr Milliband as displaying an "odd sense of insecurity" by attacking the political adviser.
