Man who was bashed and killed has been identified

MYSTERY still surrounds the discovery of a body bashed, bound and gagged that was wrapped in a sheet and dumped in Sydney's south west.

Police from Homicide Squad have identified the man as Son Thanh Nguyen, 39, but little more is known about events leading up to the grisly find on Antwerp Street, Bankstown on Wednesday night.

Forensic police examined the area while officers from the Regional Enforcement Squad on Thursday morning scoured the adjacent Ray Buchanan Oval to search of clues to help the investigation.

But so far police are still without any strong leads as to why Nguyen, who was known to police, has been bashed then killed.
