Man killed in pursuit

A CRITICAL response team has arrived at the site where a man was killed after running over his ex-girlfriend and crashing into a tree during a police pursuit in NSW.

When police responded to reports of a domestic dispute at a home in Lake Macquarie on Thursday night, they tried to stop a man from driving away.

The man pulled over to the side of the road, did a u-turn and headed back towards the home where the fight had taken place.

Police followed the man until he turned onto the lawn, ran over his former female partner and smashed into a tree.

The 29-year-old driver died at the scene.

The 32-year-old woman was taken to hospital in a stable condition.

The street where the crash occurred will remain blocked until the investigation is complete.
