Man hospitalised after pigging knife assault

AN ARGUMENT between two men turned ugly on Saturday night with one of them stabbing the other in the cheek.

Miles police officer-in-charge Sergeant Ben Wiltshire said police were called to a Miles residence around midnight on Saturday, May 14, where an altercation had been taking place between an 18-year-old man and a 27-year-old man.

The argument resulted in the latter being stabbed in the cheek with a pigging knife.

"The 27-year-old from Baralaba was taken to Miles Hospital and later transported to Toowoomba for serious but non-life- threatening injuries," Sgt Wiltshire said.

The alleged offender, 18-year-old Miles man Josh McConnell, was arrested and charged with grievous bodily harm and appeared in Dalby Magistrates Court on Monday.

Mr McConnell was subsequently remanded in custody until June 7 for the assault, when he will again appear in Dalby Magistrates Court.

The victim remains in Toowoomba Hospital where he is reportedly undergoing surgery for the serious injury to his face.

While police have said the incident was believed to be the result of a heated argument, they would not comment further on the nature or content of the disagreement between the two men.
