Man found with medieval weapon on train

A 27-YEAR-old man has been charged after police discovered a medieval weapon in his backpack on the Caboolture train line.

The Bray Park Man was intercepted by police initially in relation to another matter.

Police will allege they observed a pole protruding from the man's backpack.

Upon closer inspection police observed the item to be a flail, which consists of a striking head, capable of causing bodily harm.

A flail is unlawful to possess in Queensland without the appropriate licence and is classed as a category M weapon.

The maximum penalty for possessing a category M weapon is $11,000 or two years imprisonment.

He was issued with Notice to Appear in the Pine River Magistrates Court on January 13, 2014.
