Man faces court over allegedly threatening band with chainsaw

A MAN who allegedly used a chainsaw to threaten a band playing at Kinchant Dam will face charges in Mackay Magistrates Court.

The group was playing music at a camp ground on Saturday night when the incident, during which a male band member was injured, occurred.

Police will allege a 53-year-old resident of the area drove to the camp ground at 10pm Saturday and spoke to the male band member, demanding the band cease playing.

The band had permission to play until midnight and this was explained, a Queensland Police Service spokesperson said.

It will be further alleged the 53-year-old returned to his car, retrieved a chainsaw and tried to start it while walking towards the band member.

The band member was allegedly punched while trying to wrench the chainsaw from his grip.

Police were called and a man was later arrested. He has been charged with going armed so as to cause fear and also common assault and will appear in the Mackay Magistrates Court on June 7.
