Man drowns trying to evade police

A CRITICAL incident team has been sent to the scene where a man died after jumping into a river during a police chase in Sydney's west.

When police stopped a taxi at Ermington on Thursday morning, a man and woman got out and ran.

Officers chased the man, who jumped into the Parramatta River. His body was found soon after.
