Alleged public shower pervert remanded in custody

A 25-year-old Caloundra man charged with privacy-related offences after allegedly recording a woman using a public shower at Kings Beach has been remanded in custody.

Appearing in Maroochydore Magistrates Court today, the man, charged with three counts of observations or recordings in breach of privacy, with two of those counts relating to alleged 'upskirt' incidents at a Caloudra shopping centre.

The man faced a total of 10 charges for a variety of offences, including an enter dwelling and commit indictable offence charge, after an alleged incident on April 24, when the man allegedly filmed a woman showering in her own home.

The alleged offender was due to reappear on June 4.


SUNSHINE Coast detectives have charged a man with a number of privacy related offences after police found a video recording allegedly taken of a woman using a public shower at Caloundra.

Police conducted searches at two Caloundra addresses in Minchinton and Widgee streets yesterday morning where it will be alleged detectives located a mobile phone with a video recording of an unknown woman using a shower at the Kings Beach, Caloundra public toilets on April 29.

A 25-year-old Caloundra man was charged with one count of observations or recordings in breach of privacy.

The man was also charged with two counts of observations or recordings in breach of privacy in relation to an alleged 'upskirting' incident at a Caloundra shopping centre on October 30 last year, and an incident at a Caloundra address on April 24 this year where a man allegedly videoed a woman showering in her home.

Detective Senior Sergeant Daren Edwards, Officer in Charge of the Sunshine Coast Criminal Investigation Branch said this investigation remains active and on-going as further analysis is conducted of property seized yesterday.

"I would ask any woman who used the shower's at Kings Beach, Caloundra on April 29, between the hours of 8am and 5pm, who thought they may have been observed, to contact Policelink on 131 444 or Caloundra CIB on 5439 4406.

"I would also appeal to anyone who believes that they may have been a victim of offences such as 'upskirting' or illegally having their image taken in circumstances such as this on the Sunshine Coast, to contact us," Detective Senior Sergeant Edwards said.

The Caloundra man is also due to appear in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Monday morning charged one count each of possess drug utensil and possess property suspected of being used in a drug offence.
