Man, 38, denies impregnating girl, 11, saying 'she raped him as he slept'

A 38-YEAR-OLD man who allegedly raped an 11-year-old girl claimed the child may have had sex with him while he slept. 

Prosecutors in the Springfield District Court in Massachusetts in the US say Justin Armstrong molested the girl for 18 months - before he was arrested on Friday after tests showed the she was four months pregnant. 

The Republican Newspaper reports prosecutors told the court Armstrong claimed to police that the girl could have raped him while he was sleeping. 

The pregnancy was aborted five days after it was uncovered and DNA testing was undertaken on the fetal tissue - the results are yet to be returned. 

Judge Robert Murphy set bail at $50,000 and ordered Armstrong to stay away from the alleged victim's home.
