Making a splash

The Margaret Olley WATER IS LIFE Arts Centre.

This is an opportunity for Lismore artists and architects to work together.

The Margaret Olley Arts Centre offers creative people the chance to add some soulful inspiring water creations to the heart of Lismore.

With some thought and attention to treating the designing of the Margaret Olley Arts Centre in a poetic manner, this integrated experiment can be a showpiece, a cultural and environmental first. I suggest the architect and firm who built the Beijing Olympic Aquatic Centre “Water Cube” be called in to help, or better still lead the design team. I met an artist in New York City who sculpted his studio with see-through clear and coloured plastic walls, which were filled with water. This live-in environment had built-in fish environs, collected rain water and managed to both heat and cool his space through water. There is also a network of friends in New York who are working on a water museum. Lismore has this added bonus and opportunity to work with its arts community together with a number of art schools to pool ideas for this venture.

Lovely sentiment and ideas but I’m afraid the pool on the roof of the Olley was our April Fool’s joke. Thank you to everyone who wrote to us, rang us and who commented on the website – Ed.
