M1 crash claims the lives of two and injures three

TWO men have died and three have been injured in a crash that partially blocked the M1 motorway on the New South Wales Central Coast.

The crash happened shortly before 5am today when a southbound vehicle hit the embankment north of Jolls Bridge near Mooney Mooney.

One man was thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene.

A second man was trapped in the wreckage and died before he could be released.

Three other men were treated by New South Wales Ambulance paramedics before being taken to hospital in a serious condition.

The forensic crash unit is investigating the crash.

The deaths take the NSW Christmas holiday road toll to three and the national toll to six.
