LA SOUL songwriter Aloe Blacc has experienced life on both sides of the social divide.

In another life, he was Nathaniel Dawkins, employed by Ernst & Young.

That time inspired his second album's opening track, the credit-crunch anthem, I Need A Dollar. Good Things is a well-constructed album full of inspired touches of shivering strings and slick, skulking reggae grooves.

It has a distinctly old-time R&B feel with songs of lyrical grace and emotional honesty.
