Lisa slams Channel 9’s ‘low act’
Lisa Wilkinson has lashed out at her former employer, Nine, accusing it of using her image to pedal "fake news" about her relationship in an online article.
The network's women's site, 9 Honey, published an article titled "How I discovered my step daughter hates me" on Sunday.
The story, "as told to Victoria Bright", is about stepmother Samantha, however that is only revealed in picture captions as your scroll through the article.
A video with an image of Lisa Wilkinson sitting on the couch with her ex-Today show co-host Karl Stefanovic features at the top of the article.
The story begins with a reference to the interview subject first meeting her husband Peter. Wilkinson's husband is author and radio presenter Peter FitzSimons.
Through the course of the article the new wife describes her disintegrating patience with her 12-year-old stepdaughter Tia, as she tries to win her over by buying her gifts and picking her up from school.
The stepmother (Samantha, not Lisa) has her bridezilla moment at her wedding, saying, "It took all my self-control not to open the cubicle door and scream at (Tia). But I was the bride, so what could I do?"
The video focuses on the cost of raising a child and budgeting for parents in the modern era.
"Come on @Channel9 This is a low act. I'm used to it from rotten online scammers & the weekly trash mags, but you should be better than this," Wilkinson posted on her Twitter page.
"Just to set the #fakenews record straight, I have been happily married to my husband @PeterFitz for almost 27 years, and I don't have a stepdaughter called Tia who hates me," Wilkinson wrote.
She then said she hoped to see all her fans on The Project that night.
"The story is about the author's parenting issues, not about anyone else, and the video is an old parenting clip with Lisa and Karl and clearly titled How Modern Parenting Has Changed Over The Years," a Nine spokesperson told The Daily Telegraph.
Wilkinson left her hosting role on Nine's Today show after a breakdown in negotiations over her pay. Wilkinson had worked for Nine for almost 10 years but left over a dispute regarding her co-host Stefanovic being paid substantially more than her.
Wilkinson quickly picked up a new job at Channel 10 with FitzSimons saying, "That's my Missus. Got a new job in 45 minutes!"
Channel 9 has been contacted for comment.
