Local wins NSW design comp

Wollongbar TAFE student Sylvia Pawlus has won the NSW Student Association Diary Design Competition.

Sylvia received $1500 prize money and her design will grace the front cover of the 2012 student diary issued to all Student Association members in NSW.

Sylvia has been studying Certificate III in Media at Wollongbar TAFE as part of her Year 11 and 12 studies at Richmond River High School.

"When I found out that I'd won the competition I was so surprised because entries were from all over the state," Sylvia said. "My TAFE teacher encouraged me to enter so I thought I'd give it a go, just for the experience... I never thought I'd win."

Sylvia said she wanted to do something different with rich deep colours, a bit abstract and futuristic, while keeping in mind that it had to work well on a diary cover.

"When I finish school I'd like to work or continue studies in graphic design, marketing or advertising... Winning this competition gives me more confidence."
