Former Greens leader, tireless environmental campaigner and acclaimed writer and poet Bob Brown is a keynote speaker and just one of the many literary giants appearing at the 2012 Byron Bay Writers Festival.

To be held across a variety of venues from next Friday, August 3 to 5, this years line-up boasts Pulitzer Award winning Katherine Bo, Hong Kongs' Xu Xi, environmental children's author Shamini Flint; and the best-selling Indonesian author of all time, Andrea Hirata.

Passes range from a youth pass for non-members at $40 to the full-blown three-day literary smorgasbord for $245.

Artist Rosanna Pimm uses 3500 porcelain tampons to created her large scale performance installation  Riots of Passage in The Quad  as part of The Lismore Women's Festival on International Women's Day. Laying down and de-constructing the mandala structure symbolises the impermanence of the menstrual cycle and an end to female inequality in the world.
