Lismore to host 2013 swim meet

After a three-month tender process, Lismore City Council, in conjunction with the Lismore Workers Swim Club have won their bid to host one of the 2013 Swimming NSW Country Regional Meets.

"I'm delighted that our great facility has been awarded this important meet," said Mayor Jenny Dowell. "Not only is it our opportunity to show off Lismore Memorial Baths, but events like this also give an economic boost to our City. I hope the swimmers and their families stay a few extra days to explore our beautiful region too."

The Lismore Memorial Baths will see swimmers from all over country NSW make the journey to compete at the 2013 Swimming NSW Country Regional Meet from the 26th - 27th January, 2013.

The main aim of the NSW Country Regional Meets is to give upcoming country swimmers an opportunity to compete against each other at meets which are held in various parts of regional NSW. Three Country Regional Meets are run simultaneously at various venues in the Country Areas over the same weekend.

Swimming NSW Chief Executive Officer, Mr Mark Heathcote, explained how this joint venture between Lismore City Council and Swimming NSW will provide the swimmers of Lismore and their coaches a fantastic opportunity to compete at their own Country Regional Meet.

"The involvement of Lismore City Council in supporting Lismore Workers Swim Club greatly strengthened the Club's bid and now the people and swimmers of Lismore have been rewarded with the hosting rights to one of these exciting meets," he said.

"Lismore will see hundreds of athletes and their families making the trip to the meet, which will not only provide the swimmers of Lismore with a stronger pool of competition for their ongoing development, but also present an excellent tourism opportunity for visitors to explore all Lismore has to offer."

"The involvement of the Council, in conjunction with Lismore Workers Swim Club, puts the meet in great stead to be one of the most successful Country Regional Meets of the year," Mr Heathcote said.

West Wyalong and Katoomba RSL Swimming Clubs will also run Swimming NSW Country Regional Meets over the same weekend.
