Lismore gears up for Miss Showgirl

THE NORTH Coast National Show committee is looking for young women who know their stuff about rural life, and riders with cattle-rustling skills.

The Miss Showgirl competition and the Team Penning event are among the entertainments at this year's North Coast National, which is on from Thursday to Saturday, October 18-20. Nominations for both events close next Wednesday, October 10.

Miss Showgirl 2012 will act as an ambassador for rural NSW, with official and informal duties representing the North Coast A & I Society. Contestants will be judged on personality, confidence, ambition and life goals, rural knowledge, presentation, and speech.

Team Penning is a fast-paced sport in which a team of three riders has to separate three head of cattle from a herd of 30, and pen them. It's tricky, it's got to be quick, and if one extra bovine crosses an invisible line, the team is disqualified.

Entry forms are available on the North Coast National website at northcoastnational.
