Lismore Garden Club News
This week I want to shine the spotlight on one of the hard working members of the Lismore Garden Club. Phyllis Laker joined the club a few years back after moving here from Bendigo where she was an active member of the much larger Bendigo Garden Club. I feel sure that all Lismore Garden Club members will back me up when I say that it was Bendigo’s loss and our gain.
No sooner had Phyllis joined our club than she set about encouraging members toward a properly organised cut flower table show and competition at the monthly meetings. When she arrived it was negligible; today it takes up two or three large tables and the standard of entries has improved out of sight. As part of the job of cut flower judge she has taught us a huge amount about the presentation and standard of our entries.
In addition to other interests outside the club and keeping a beautiful prize-winning garden, these days Phyllis has taken on the demanding jobs of organising the Lismore Garden Club social outings and running club craft classes for the ladies. And if that wasn’t enough she generally attends most of the club functions and on many occasions has been known to pick up and deliver other club members to their home.
In the last few years the Lismore Garden Club has gone from strength to strength because of a hard working executive committee and lots of people like Phyllis who work tirelessly behind the scenes.
The next meeting of the Lismore Garden Club will be held today (Thursday, April 8) at 1pm at the Lismore Workers Club. Potential new members are most welcome. For information phone Ray on 6625 1773 or Rosemary on 6629 3353.
Finally: “The measure of a woman is not what she has, but how much other people respect her.”
