Lismore bridge to be closed weekends starting Saturday

TEMPORARY closures planned for Colemans Bridge at Lismore have been delayed and will now start this Saturday, Roads and Maritime Services has said.

Work on the bridge had been scheduled to start at the weekend but was delayed because of recent wet weather.

Assuming the weather remains clear, the bridge will now be closed weekends from 6am Saturday to 6pm Sunday, starting May 16, and continuing until June 28.

Motorists will be diverted by traffic control via Molesworth Street, Ballina Road, Bruxner Highway and Casino

Street or Bridge Street, Terania Street and Wilson Street.

One walkway will remain open to pedestrians for the full duration of work.

The RMS says the work being done essential maintenance on the bridge's structure, involving" the construction of a temporary truss under the bridge and repair work to some timber components".

"Roads and Maritime appreciates the patience of road users while this essential maintenance work is completed," the authority said in a written statement.

Artist Rosanna Pimm uses 3500 porcelain tampons to created her large scale performance installation Riots of Passage in The Quad as part of The Lismore Women's Festival on International Women's Day. Laying down and de-constructing the mandala structure symbolises the impermanence of the menstrual cycle and an end to female inequality in the world.
