Licence to roam for Jarryd Hayne in Origin I

JARRYD Hayne is hoping to wreak havoc on his Origin return next week after being given free reign by coach Laurie Daley.

Daley is looking to maximise the Blues star's attacking prowess and Hayne is looking forward to his first State of Origin clash since helping New South Wales win the 2014 series.

He played in that success as a fullback and next week's game at Suncorp Stadium will be only the second time he will fill the centre role in his 20-game Origin career.

But Hayne revealed in his first day in camp yesterday he would not be restricted to left-side centre as Daley looks for a nore versatile attack against the Maroons next Wednesday.

"Laurie has given me the license to roam," Hayne said.

"If I see something, he's got the confidence in me to back myself."

Hayne aims to use his licence to roam to ensure he has a strong influence in attack, like he did in 2014, when he broke the line three times and broke 22 tackles.

"You want to make plays for the team and you always want to be the difference maker," he said.

"It's about making plays work when I see something developing or happening."

Hayne said he had enjoyed himself playing American football for the San Francisco 49ers and rugby sevens with Fiji.

But he admitted in his time away from league, the one thing he did miss was playing Origin.

"It's the hardest game you ever play in, and get ready for hell - that's what it feels like," he said.

"Every opportunity you get you always want to play Origin.

"It's such a special tournament, such a special game and being a part of it, it really is amazing."
