Lesbian cheerleader sent back to jail over sex with minor

A FLORIDA teenager whose family claimed she was arrested for being gay has been jailed over alleged sex with a 14-year-old girlfriend.

High school cheerleader Kaitlyn Hunt's family claimed earlier this year that the victim's parents had gone to the police because of their daughter's gay relationship.

"They were out to destroy my daughter, they feel like my daughter 'made' their daughter gay," Kelley Hunt Smith, Kaitlyn's mother, said in a post on Facebook.

The DailyMail in the UK reports that prosecutors have withdrawn a plea deal with Hunt after it emerged last week that the 19-year-old may have violated a court order by having sex as recently as two weeks ago.

Circuit Court Judge Robert Pegg has since revoked bond, meaning she'll remain jailed until a trial.

The judge also added a new charge to her court record - transmitting material harmful to a minor by electronic equipment, a third-degree felony.

WPTV NewsChannel 5 reported a tearful Hunt, in a bright orange jail jumpsuit and shackles, periodically glanced at her father in the Indian River County courtroom.

Sheppard testified about the electronic evidence he has, including nude photos taken April 3 and July 17 in Hunt's house, and thousands of text messages between Hunt and the girl.

Prosecutors have made it clear it was never about Hunt's sexuality.

"The facts of this case are not unique," Bruce Colton, Indian River County State Attorney Bruce Colton told WPTV NewsChannel 5.

"We've prosecuted cases involving adults having an unlawful relationship with a minor child in the past. We have had several of those. We have that somewhat regularly."

Under Florida law, it is illegal for an older teen - Hunt was 18 at the time - to have sexual contact with a 14 year old, even if the relationship was consensual.
