Many people may be unaware that a branch of Alliance Francaise is in our midst, organising language classes as well as cultural and social activities for French speakers, would-be French speakers and interested people. Apart from encouraging and supporting French language and culture in the community, the Alliance provides a range of stimulating opportunities for interaction and communication between French and Australian people.
The North Coast branch of the Alliance Francaise is starting a new series of French language classes beginning at in Lismore at 6pm next Tuesday, February 9, and finishing on March 30.
These classes are designed for absolute beginners and do not require a prior knowledge of French.
The cost for term one is $220.
Zonta awards open
The Zonta Club of Northern Rivers is now calling for entries in the 2010 Zonta International Young Women in Public Affairs Awards. High schools have been informed and young women aged 16-20 are invited to apply for the essay-based competition.
The annual award recognises commitment to the volunteer sector, leadership, and dedication to the advancement of women while encouraging participation in public and political life.
The Club’s first winner in 1998 was Sunanda Creagh, now a journalist with Reuters in Jakarta, and has been recognised for her articles relating to the Copenhagen Climate Summit.
The awards presentation evening will take place late in March. The winner receives $150 and can advance on to district and international level.
