Leads help in shooting death of Tweed's Russell Johnstone

POLICE have made no arrests in relation to the shooting death of 24-year-old Russell Johnstone from Tweed Heads.

However, officers involved in the Tingalpa murder investigation are confident the large number of leads they have received will offer some clue as to what happened on the morning of the shooting on February 6.

"We're still working on a number of lines of investigations," Detective Superintendent Steve Holahan, of Cleveland police, said.

"It's very early days yet, but we have received many leads from the public."

Det Sup Holahan said no similar shootings had occurred in Tingalpa in recent memory.

Meanwhile, a funeral fund donation page created by Mr Johnstone's family and friends had raised over $1700 of a $5000 target in less than a day.

Tributes continue to pour in for Mr Johnstone, with his Facebook page acting as a memorial of sorts.

One person described Mr Johnstone as "a gentle giant loved by many" and described his "cheeky nature, always playing jokes on us".

"I knew you for a short while, but you became a man I could call bro quickly. You were just that sort of bloke that will be missed," a man wrote.

"You touched the hearts of many and you were loved by each and every person you met," another woman wrote.
