PROPERTY owners with unused coal seam gas wells on their land may soon be able to have them legally converted into water bores, after a law change from the State Government.
Mines Minister Andrew Cripps said until now, laws were in place stopping these wells from being converted but this was a "common sense approach" to the issue.
"Landholders will have ready access to a new water supply without have to pay for a water bore to be drilled," he said.
If the posed amendments were passed, conversion would be allowed for wells drilled from 2012 onwards.
"These reforms will give landholders ready access to water to support their businesses," he said.
