HE was left out of the starting side, brought on only inside the final 10 minutes.
But Billy Mehmet was the toast of Perth yesterday, helping his side to a 1-0 win over the Roar at Patersons Stadium.
It was sweet revenge for Glory after losing last season's thrilling grand final to the Brisbane outfit.
Yesterday's much-anticipated rematch also went down to the wire, with a scorching Scott
Jamieson run and pinpoint cross setting up Mehmet to head home in the 88th minute.
The match had its spiteful moments, not surprising considering the Glory felt it was robbed by a penalty to Roar striker Besart Berisha which decided last year's grand final.
Berisha was targeted and brought down in a heavy challenge by Liam Miller in the first half.
Miller picked up a yellow card, as did Roar's Mitch Nichols due to the ensuing melee.
Glory's Shane Smeltz could have had a penalty after two minutes when he copped a knee from behind from Matt Smith.
The Roar also had its chances inside the first 10 minutes, with Erik Paartalu missing two chances after getting himself into open space.
