Landscapes of the mind

Melanie de Boehmler is a local artist who is inspired by her environment.

She moved to the Northern Rivers a year and a bit ago and had never painted landscapes before that. (The usual subjects for her art were fantastical characters from her overactive imagination. Her landscapes still spring from her imagination.)

“I work to create a sense of movement in my paintings,” Melanie said, “to allow the eye to be taken on a journey, even if that journey is only across a distance the height and width of the canvas. Humour and storytelling are the irresistible drives behind my mark-making.”

An exhibition of Melanie’s new work runs at Invercauld House, 161 Invercauld Rd, Goonellabah, till May 31.
