FORMER Richmond Rovers player Jordan Lampard has been selected in the Young Socceroos team that will tour New Zealand.
A 23-man Young Socceroos under-20s squad has been named for the series of friendly matches against New Zealand, Qatar and Panama next month.
The opposition teams have already qualified for the upcoming Under-20 World Cup.
Lampard previously played in the Football Far North Coast competition and is now in the Brisbane Roar system.
"This is an ideal opportunity for us to get a head start on our preparations," coach Paul Okon said.
"The majority of the squad that we have selected are born in 1997 compared to our opposition who were born in 1995.
"It's important for us to play as many international matches against quality opposition for us to improve and give us a head start for qualifying for the next World Cup.
"This is an ideal chance for this group of players to impress and show that they are capable of performing at international standard."
The first game is against New Zealand in Auckland on Sunday. The men then play Qatar at the same venue on Thursday before finishing up against Panama at Hamilton next Sunday.
