Kids tri hard in Lennox

Organisers of the Lennox Head Junior Triathlon Jo and Steve Scotcher, Lina and Katie Lukin were relieved when the sun came out for their event last weekend.

“The event has become a fixture on the junior sporting calendar with this year’s triathlon being oversubscribed. The event ran smoothly with thanks to the many parents who volunteered as marshals, and of course our major sponsor Lennox Head Dental,” Lina said.

Local champion triathletes Pip Taylor, from Lennox Head, and Clayton Fettell, from Alstonville, presented the junior athletes with their trophies.

The junior triathletes, aged 6 to 13 years, came from all over the North Coast, including Coffs Harbour, Byron Bay, Alstonville, Tintenbar, Ballina and Lennox Head.

“A big congratulations to all the amazing children who competed in the triathlon with a great attitude and sportsmanship – a fantastic effort,” Lina said.

Jo Scotcher, the event’s mastermind said the emphasis of the junior triathlon is first and foremost fun in participation.

“It’s all about having a go,” Jo said.
