KATIE Beveridge never knew she could run at great speed until she decided to change her lifestyle.
The 27-year-old quit smoking and shed five kilos in a 12-week Red E Personal Training challenge - and she couldn't be happier or healthier.
Her achievement is a great thing to celebrate since it's Australia's Healthy Weight Week, an initiative of the Dieticians Association of Australia that aims to raise awareness of the importance of achieving and maintaining a healthy weight and a healthy lifestyle.
Ms Beveridge said she hadn't been happy with her look.
"I needed something to motivate me to lose some extra kilos," she said.
"I had been doing a boot camp for a year but it wasn't until the 12-week challenge when I really knuckled down and watched what I ate."
She said she knew her eating habits had to change.
"I used to eat a lot of take-out," Ms Beveridge said.
"So I started cooking healthier meals at home. I cut back on alcohol too."
Meanwhile, DAA spokeswoman Professor Clare Collins said women aged 18-24 were struggling to eat healthily.
"With Australia in the grip of an obesity epidemic and younger women particularly prone to weight gain, cooking a proper main meal at home could be the answer to improving diet and weight problems in this age group," she said.
