Just Dance for joy
‘Dance for joy’ is the motto of dance teachers Bianca Batten and her mother Lynda Rose. Offering Just Dance workshops in January teaching a multitude of styles including jazz, hip hop, musical and funk, the mother daughter team are trying to raise funds to send 17-year-old Bianca to Spain as part of the Student Exchange Australia program.
“I’m going to live with a host family in Madrid and go to school over there,” Bianca said. “And I’m really looking forward to learning Spanish dancing while I’m there.”
Along with Manuel Solomon, a guest teacher from New Zealand who specialises in hip hop and break, Bianca and Lynda are both experienced dance teachers with dancing in their blood.
When Bianca stated teaching dance four years ago, she became a third generation dance teacher. Her mother has been choreographing and teaching dance for 28 years, and her grandmother also taught dance and opened a dance school in New Zealand.
With different classes offered for beginners and for advanced dancers, Bianca encourages people of all ages and abilities to come along and learn some new dance moves and have fun. On the final day of the workshops, students will perform for each other and show what they have learned.
The four-day Just Dance workshops will be held in Lismore and Byron Bay and cost $160 per person. The Lismore workshop will take place from Monday, January 18, till Thursday, January 21, at the Red Dove Centre on Molesworth Street.
The Byron Bay workshop will take place from Saturday, January 23, till Tuesday, January 26, at the Byron Youth Activities Centre in Gilmore Crescent.
To receive an early bird discount, you need to register for the workshops by January 10. Students must be at least eight years of age to participate. For enquiries and registration forms phone Lynda Rose on 6629 3380 or 0437 405 859, or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
