Jules really is the happiest cartoonist

LOCAL cartoonist Jules Faber is celebrating a high profile commission -

illustrating a best seller for kids with popular comedian Anh Do.

Jules took three months to complete the more than 160 illustrations in the book Weirdo.

"Both of us have worked in books before, so the process was really quick for us," Jules said.

"This meant we could go with ideas as we thought of them and experiment that way. At the initial meeting, Anh and I had ideas for bunches of stuff, including an animated cover and MAD-style fold-ins which we managed to incorporate into the final book.

For Anh it was an interesting experience.

"After writing The Happiest Refugee and then adapting that as a kid's book, it felt good to write more straight up comedy," Ahn said.

"Refugee was a more serious story, but this one is just fun the whole way through."

The pair are now working on the sequel which is scheduled for release in 2014.

Jules will be signing copies in Park Beach Plaza on Saturday, November 23 and at Book Warehouse in Toormina on November 30.

Rosanna has designs on female taboo

Artist Rosanna Pimm uses 3500 porcelain tampons to created her large scale performance installation Riots of Passage in The Quad as part of The Lismore Women's Festival on International Women's Day. Laying down and de-constructing the mandala structure symbolises the impermanence of the menstrual cycle and an end to female inequality in the world.
