Scene Briefs

It’ll be a different sort of jazz night for the Bang Thai in Bangalow this Friday, February 26. Sydney singer/guitarist and bluesman Jack Derwin will play blues, jazz, roots and acoustic standards in his very distinctive style. (A style charged with passion.) It all happens from 7pm.

Slim Pickens and Dr Baz love playing the Jazz-Bah in the Ballina Hotel. And you’ll love them right back when they play their blues ’n roots (with a hint of cajun/tex/mex) this Saturday, February 27, from 6pm.

Mick McHugh takes his impassioned Irish roots music to The Byron Bay Bowlo this Sunday, February 28, from 1.30pm. Mick then heads to play the Port Fairy Folk Festival. Using acoustic guitar, harmonica and foot percussion, Mick sings up-tempo, stomp-driven songs, lamenting ballads, classic acoustic covers and some Irish nostalgia.
