Nine to replay Schapelle telemovie after INXS ratings smash

AFTER losing last night's ratings race to Seven, Channel 9 is milking its Schapelle Corby telemovie one more time thanks to the convicted drug smuggler's release this morning.

Nine will replay the drama tonight after its news special Schapelle: Finally Free, which will air at 8.40pm.

Twice as many Aussies tuned in to the first half of Seven's INXS mini-series than Nine's Schapelle telemovie last night.

Nearly two million (1.974m) viewers across the five metro cities watched INXS: Never Tear Us Apart, while Schapelle came seventh for the night with 1.022 million viewers. With regional figures taken into account, INXS drew a massive 2.881 million viewers.

It appears we'd rather watch rock stars taking drugs than the trial of a drug smuggler after the two dramas, both based on real-life stories, went head-to-head at 8.30pm last night.

Nine's last-minute decision on Friday to move Schapelle from tonight to last night, in direct competition with Seven's heavily publicised and highly anticipated INXS mini-series, backfired for the broadcaster despite Corby's timely parole approval.

Seven dominated the night, securing the top four spots across the metro cities thanks to INXS, the return of its current affair show Sunday Night, ratings juggernaut My Kitchen Rules and its Sunday News.

Nine's The Block: Fans vs Faves out rated Schapelle by more than 250,000 viewers, coming fifth for the night, while Ten's live coverage of the Women's Snowboard Slopestyle Final at Sochi had more than half a million more viewers than the launch of its dance show So You Think You Can Dance.
