Scene Briefs

Invisible Friend will funk up the Lismore Golf Club this Friday, October 12. The band has been busy in their Sunroom Studio recording tracks for their next release for Vitamin Records. But on Friday you can enjoy their high-energy and thought-provoking rock, funk and blues, rich with vocal harmonies and deadly hooks. Starts 8pm and it's free.

Since forming last year The Rubens have had a dream run: a demo tape made a huge splash on Triple J, a national headline tour; a hot Splendour In The Grass gig and now a new album (self-titled). Their single The Gun was recorded in New York. The Rubens play The Northern in Byron this Saturday, October 13, from 9pm. Tickets are $12 (+bf) from www.oztix.com.au.

Ebb 'n' Flo will bring their distinctive concoction of roots, rock, reggae, hip hop and funk to the Ballina RSL Club on Friday, October 19, from 8.30pm. With four New Zealanders and four east-coast Aussies, Ebb 'n' Flo bring urban reggae to life with all the joy, groove and attitude it deserves. With their album House of Love tucked under their dreadlocks and recent big festival gigs under their belts, the crew is bound to bring that smokin' goodtime vibe to Ballina. And the gig is free.

Gearing up for their recording adventure, The Hoochers have fattened up their groove with horn and flute arrangements. Playing as a seven-piece, The Hoochers will share their original funk-filled blues sounds at the Nimbin Hotel this Saturday, October 13, from 6pm. Fronted by the one-and-only Miss Jodie, you'll enjoy slick and funky-arse dance tunes with plenty of magical jamming moments.
