Intruders armed with axe, gun and machete invade six homes

A "LARGE chunk" of a man's head was injured with an axe and another man's skull crushed during a spate of violent home invasions in Sydney, police said today.

Armed with an axe, gun and machete, a group of intruders stormed through six Auburn homes in the early hours, threatened the occupants and left some with horrific injuries.

Laptops, mobile phones and wallets were stolen.

Detective Sergeant Karl Leis described the invasions as "brutal acts of violence carried out by a group of cowards who think they are above the law" and said there was no place in society for those believed they could rob and inflict pain on innocent people.

The group were dressed in hooded jumpers and described as being aged in their teens to mid 20s with tall, slim builds.

Anyone with information can phone Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
