International films in Byron

The Byron Bay International Film festival gets under way this week, running from this Friday, March 5, till March 13.

The festival presents a selection of films most of which have never been seen in Australia before. You can check out the Free Experimental Film Showcase and hang out with filmmakers at the Verandah Bar each evening from 6pm.

For the full program and ticketing visit the website at www.bbff.com.au.

A film of particluar interest screens this Saturday, March 6. It’s called Dust & Illusions: A Burning Man Documentary.

This film offers a new perspective on the Burning Man event. From a group of friends organizing underground activities in San Francisco in the 70s, Burning Man has become the largest countercultural event in North America. But is it still counter-cultural? Has the larger world caught with the event and slowly erased the original ideals?

It screens at 7pm.
