Inspiration, art and love
Macushla Doyle was a young woman whose dedication to art practice was an inspiration to many.
She helped pioneer access to the arts for people with disabilities in the Northern Rivers.
Macushla was a painter, ceramicist, performer, dancer, poet and mermaid singer.
Dancing a solo piece in In Habitat in Adelaide with Kompany Kaos, and performing as Frida Kahlo’s soul in Alive Still Alive with Access Arts in Brisbane, were highlights in an artistic life that radiated love.
In honour of that love, Roxy Gallery in Kyogle is showing artworks entered in the Macushla Doyle Memorial Art Prize till December 5.
This art prize is a part of the VeryAbility Arts Festival 2009, a project by RealArtWorks Inc, RED Inc, Roxy Gallery and Serpentine Gallery in Lismore.
Finalist works in this exhibition will be exhibited during the VeryAbility Festival at Lismore City Hall from November 28 to December 4.
