iiNet calls for evaluation of NBN policies

AS THE Coalition prepares to unveil its broadband policy, a key telecommunications company is calling for a thorough evaluation of the major parties' proposals.

Yesterday the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) rejected NBN Co's latest proposed framework governing prices and access to the network.

NBN Co had proposed to be exempt from close regulatory oversight, and the ACCC did not accept that.

It is the third time the ACCC has rejected a special access undertaking proposal from NBN Co in negotiations which have stretched out for 18 months.

Chief regulatory officer of telecommunications company iiNet Steve Dalby says the company felt that NBN Co's proposal of a 30-year term was ridiculously long and "unnatural".
