I go to Rio (or Ballina)
Peter Allen’s life was influenced by women (he’s not the only one) – his mother Marion, Judy Garland and Liza Minnelli. Similarly, Paul Farrell’s on-stage performance as Peter Allen in Ballina Players’ production of The Boy From Oz is given verve and pizzazz by his trio of girl singers.
He introduces them: “Not only are they the hottest back up singers in all of Oz, but they can move a piano in five-inch heels; none of the guys at Grace Brothers can do that.”
Many of the roles in The Boy From Oz have required demanding rehearsal but none more so than that taken to achieve the tight and punchy harmonies delivered by Anne Staunton, Liz Dargin and Meredith Betts as the trio.
Peter Allen’s story, from Tenterfield to London and onto New York acclaim, is told in song, dance, colour and spectacle in The Boy from Oz, featuring all of Peter’s greatest songs, including I Honestly Love You, I Still Call Australia Home, Tenterfield Saddler and I Go To Rio.
The Boy from Oz runs from November 20 to December 12 at the Players Theatre in Swift St, Ballina. Book now at Just Funkin Music (6686 2440). Tickets are $25/22/15.
Opening night on Friday, November 20, is a black tie event, with catering, champagne and a chance to meet the stars after the show.
