House fires claim 3 over weekend

HOUSE fires claimed the lives of three people in as many days in the NSW Blue Mountains on the weekend.

Early Sunday morning the body of a man aged in his 20s or 30s was found in a burnt out bungalow style home at Blaxland.

Late Friday, a woman aged in her 60s died after flames tore through her home at Hazelbrook.

Two other elderly residents were rescued by an off-duty police officer and treated in hospital for smoke inhalation.

Earlier in the day, the body of an unknown person was discovered in a home at Blaxland.

At the time of going to press the cause of all three fires was still unknown but it was believed heaters could be to blame.

The weekend was one of the coldest on record in the Sydney region for more than a decade.

Rosanna has designs on female taboo

Artist Rosanna Pimm uses 3500 porcelain tampons to created her large scale performance installation Riots of Passage in The Quad as part of The Lismore Women's Festival on International Women's Day. Laying down and de-constructing the mandala structure symbolises the impermanence of the menstrual cycle and an end to female inequality in the world.
