Firefighters on scene of blaze saved a row of houses

UPDATE: FIREFIGHTERS have been praised for extinguishing a burning double-storey home at Mullaway on Thursday night and stopping flames spreading to adjoining homes.

The Darkum Rd property was engulfed in flames as the 000 call was made to emergency services about 7.40pm.

Fire and Rescue NSW Mid North Coast Duty Commander Inspector Tony Lenthall said the occupants escaped the home uninjured.

Fire crews from Woolgoolga and Coffs Harbour attended along with Rural Fire Service crews on the northern beaches and Coffs Clarence police.

"Once the crews arrived on scene, the house was well alight and the extent of the fire meant crews couldn't go into the house and had to fight the flames from the street to ensure the safety of firefighters," Inspt. Lenthall said.

"Both agencies - the Rural Fire Service and Fire and Rescue NSW - worked extremely well together.

"It was a cracker of a fire and adjoining houses were at risk before the great work of both agencies."

Forensic police today scoured the scene.

It is understood the home was uninsured.

THURSDAY 9PM: FIREFIGHTERS were unable to save a house that was engulfed in flames on the Coffs Coast overnight.

Emergency services were called to a Darkum Rd property at Mullaway on Thursday night around 7pm after reports a house had caught fire.

A two storey home was found to be well engulfed on arrival.

All occupants were accounted for and an investigation is now underway into the cause.
