Hitting cancer for a six

Targets have been placed around Oakes Oval and every time a ball hits them during the festival of cricket, Lismore City Council will donate $50 the Cancer Council's Relay for Life.

Also anytime someone in the crowd catches the ball, Council will donate another $50 (capped at $1000) to the event.

Relay for Life coordinator for the far North Coast region Anna Fitzalan has welcomed the generous offer.

“Any funds raised will go towards next years Lismore Relay for Life, and those funds flow back into the local community through such initiatives as Cancer Council local grants scheme, our living Well After Cancer workshops and a huge range of support services available to cancer patients, their family and friends,” she said.

Lismore's Relay for Life will be held at Southern Cross University, on May 1-2, 2010.
